About the Crowdsourcing Process
Thank you for your interest in contributing to this platform! Please take a moment to understand the platform, the project and its research partner organisations, in which context the platform was developed, and the phases and roles of the CrowdEquality crowdsourcing process:
The goal of the Ideation phase is to collect information about Challenges (problems / issues) related to gender (in)equality that exist at the participating universities and research institutions, as well as about the Ideas (specific actions / measures / initiatives) that could be useful to address each of the identified Challenges.
Challenges and Ideas can be submitted by internal users who comprise all registered members of the participating universities and research institutions (students, academic and non-academic staff members etc.).
A wider audience of external users, i.e. registered users who are not members of the participating universities and research institutions, are encouraged to comment on and ‘Like’ the content submitted by internal users.
The goal of the Reviewing phase is to pre-select the feasible and promising ideas collected during the Ideation phase for the further Voting phase. This analysis is done by the involved stakeholders at each university / research institution.
The goal of the Voting phase is to identify the winning ideas that will be considered for inclusion in the Gender Equality Plans to be further implemented in practice. The winning ideas will be identified by upvoting or downvoting the ideas pre-selected in the Reviewing phase.
Both internal users and external users are encouraged to participate in the voting process!
The goal of the Implementation phase is to preserve information about the winning ideas for each challenge. Involved stakeholders at each university / research institution have an opportunity to post updates about the implementation of the winning ideas or sharing experiences if for some reason such implementation did not work.
CrowdEquality collects ideas and triggers discussions about promising initiatives for promoting gender equality and diversity and is specifically targeted at research institutions.
CrowdEquality strives to be an inclusive community that empowers men and women all over the world to freely discuss the issues of gender equality in research institutions. CrowdEquality is designed to connect academic and non-academic staff members working at research institutions, policy makers, gender experts, members of relevant NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisations) and national/international networks, as well as all individuals interested in the design and implementation of Gender Equality Plans (GEPs).

The project combines gender mainstreaming and positive actions at four main levels:
- HR practices and management processes
- Research design and delivery
- Teaching and services for (potential) students
- Institutional communication
Within the EQUAL-IST project the issues of horizontal and vertical segregation in research and administrative careers, work-life balance, gender imbalance among bachelor, master, and doctoral students, as well as gender neutral/blind approach to IST research, will be addressed. This will be done by influencing organisational structures, discourse, and behaviour. In addition, the EQUAL-IST project will promote a participatory approach towards creation of gender equality policies, ensuring at the same time the active dialogue with and involvement of decision makers at the participating research institutions. The toolkits, guidelines, and methodologies developed during the EQUAL-IST project, as well as lessons learned, will be disseminated both inside and outside the European Union.
