How to achieve a true gender equality discource and actions

Fri 5.5.2017 9:32 am

It seems that it is politically correct in gender equality discourse to focus only on challenges that females faces and bypass the male perspective. This does not mean that we should not look the problem that females faces but we should drive towards real equality instead of the juxtaposition of males and females (not forgetting the other gender).

This is  a problem in Finland as boys are facing more and more difficulties in education. Nowadays the ratio in universities is that percentage of female students is almost 60%. In the University of Turku, it is already higher than 60%. There is also a bigger risk for the social and workforce exclusion for males than females. Males also face more violence, has mandatory military service etc.  If these issues are forgotten, it will start to seem unjust form male perspective and equality actions may lose the wide support that they now have in Finnish society. In this project, the risk is similar. If the males may see that aim there is not for real equality but promoting only females, then the support for project may be ended in the individual level.

To avoid that, we should see problems that all genders face and not have a predetermined viewpoint that favors any gender.

The goal of this idea is to help acheive gender equality. Gender equality refers to both female and male. To keep gender equality, both male and female should be promoted. There should be raised awareness about gender equality for both female and male via different communication channels and actions, such as by HR, by presentations of both men and women in organizations, and by different media.

I agree that men face similar problems in other fields, i.e. social sciences or humanities. So, the Gender Equality Problem should be seen from the holistic perspective where both genders need support.
