It is difficult to combine learning / career and childcare for students and staff who became parents (Проблемы совмещения учебы/карьеры и ухода за ребенком )

Thu 30.3.2017 4:10 pm

Students who become parents have a need to combine learning with childcare. Young professors and non-academic also face a similar problem. They must choose between career and childcare. Especially it concerns women. If a woman does not receive an education and an opportunity for career growth today she will face a risk to become socially unprotected in future How to solve this problem at the university level?

If there are problems like combining the child with studying at the university, then I think that it is impossible to cope well with both of them, because the child requires constant attention and care, which is not quite compatible with studies, but if there is such a need, it is necessary to create Childcare centers that are located at or near the university, and where the children of the students will be.

Men should have oportunity to use maternity leave as women do, in order to allow women to work during the first year after the child was born.
Or they can devide maternity leave between them, so it's gonna be easier for women to combine work and childcare

It would be great if employer can allocate funds on babysitter for their employees (in of case of overtime).

Having help with the child can lighten womens`s load and give them the opportunity to do their job/education properly.

Too often, employees have to specifically ask to work part-time or work from home, which can be awkward. Employer should instead offer a broad range of different options.

Regardless combining career and childcare (not education and childcare). This can be an unpopular opinion nowadays, but i think if a women wants both: a baby and a top career at the same time, that is the problem right here. I think that mother is one of the most important roles in a person's life and mother should be around at least until child goes to school. And raising a child is a hard work, no time can be wasted in this process. Then of course, women shoud have full rights to go to work and not be discriminated.

I think that there is no problem of combining work and caring for children. There is a problem of organizing work in the family and in the enterprise.
