Mentoring network for women in ICT organizations

Thu 4.5.2017 3:11 pm

The practice shows that mentoring programs are very beneficial: they provide mentees with necessary guidance for reaching their goals, help to integrate better, boost mentees' confidence and allow them to acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses, which can in turn lead to faster learning and personal development. However, currently Lithuania has no mentoring programmes for women in ICT. It is a significant issue since women working in this field are pretty difficult to find. Women need more encouragement to choose a technical career, and it is necessary to break the existing stereotypes down. Therefore it is suggested to create a mentoring programme where the professionals from technical sector would share their knowledge, guide and reveal the professional potential for the young women in this field. It is believed that such programme is very relevant as it would encourage more women to study a PhD degree in technical sciences and become researchers.

Rank

The current situation in ICT world is quite imbalanced as there barely are any females working in this sphere. Therefore, it is considered to implement several ideas that would allow to improve it.

Firstly, it is considered to create a Network that would gather women which are interested or work in ICT sphere. This Network would give an opportunity to exchange their ideas and good practices related to this field. It is believed that such environment would encourage young girls to choose technical study programs in the future.
