The lack of knowledge of women in IT

Fri 24.3.2017 8:08 am

The reason why so less girls study Information Technologies and other Technological Sciences might lay under the lack of knowledge. Various initiatives for girls to study the Information Technology were promoted. However, there is still a lack of knowledge what girls actually can work in that field because women are not represented as IT specialist. More stories about women in the Information Technology field might boot their interest as girls would get more information about the various jobs that are taken by women.

The Internet contains a lot of materials for learning and self-learning. Gender is not related to the ability to self-learn. Therefore, I consider harmful creation of separate IT courses for women.

Dear Luidmila,

Not everyone can study by themselves. Even if they do, they also need some mentoring.

As for girls, I agree that they can learn themselves but it is not fun at all. As it is not fun to be the only one girl in the IT class. We have organized several events for girls only. So, they can try out technology field with their friends and they were much more interested and braver to do so when they are in a mono-gender group.

It is not directed against boys as there are many groups and events for boys too. This is one of the ways to encourage girls to get interested into IT and see that they are not alone that many girls are interested in it too.
